B.Fletcher closes gap at Thruxton.

This weekend saw the second outing in the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge for the Power Maxed Racing (PMR) #77 Ginetta GT5 piloted by young PMR racer Brayden Fletcher. Racing in

the Pro category, it was young Fletchers first time at Thruxton, the UK’s fasted racing circuit. Fletcher adapted well and really closed the gap in his lap times to the leaders throughout the weekend.

With qualifying taking place on a warm but overcast Saturday morning, the young racer from Oldham really enjoyed his first time out at the intimidating high-speed circuit. He spent the session pushing his Ginetta GT5 and learning how the car handled on such a high-speed circuit. Despite learning so much about the car, he couldn’t quite string his perfect lap together and qualified further down the field than he would have liked.

By race 1 the sun was out and the track temperature was a scorching 32 degrees. Fletcher got a good start from the back of the grid and found himself immediately in the thick of the action having made up 5 places on the first lap, it was easy to see how comfortable he was becoming in the Ginetta getting involved with little battles and shaving time off his lap times. Fletcher crossed the line in p18.

Starting from the 9th row on the grid for race 2, Fletcher had another great start and was up battling for 16th. Setting steadily increasing lap times, Fletcher was pushing hard and as a consequence had a massive moment on lap 6 coming out of the chicane and spun. Not only did the spin cost time but at a track where tyres are so important, the spin caused the tyres to go off, compromising grip and halting Fletcher’s charge. Fletcher crossed the line in the position he started, p18.

Brayden Fletcher commented,

“I’ve had a great weekend as I’ve had a lot more seat time and it’s been great to perform at such a high profile meeting as the BTCC, plus it’s been fun to race on the same weekend as my brother.”

Fletcher continues,

“I really enjoyed racing at Thruxton, it really suits my style and my times steadily improved over the weekend as I got more comfortable in the car, I now feel like I am able to race, bring on Oulton Park."
